The effect of the educational stations strategy on learning the skills of dribbling and shooting in basketball among eighth-grade female students.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of the Learning Stations Strategy on learning the basketball skills of dribbling and shooting among eighth-grade female students. It also sought to identify the differences between the experimental group and the control group in learning these two basketball skills.

The researchers employed the experimental method using a pre-test–post-test equivalent groups design (experimental and control groups), as it was appropriate for the nature of the research problem. The research population consisted of eighth-grade female students at Sazwar Basic School for Girls during the academic year (2025–2026), totaling (93) students distributed across three classes (A, B, and C). The research sample consisted of (32) students representing two classes (A and B), with (16) students in each class. The participants were selected using simple random sampling (lottery method) after excluding a number of students from the research population. The equivalence of the two groups was established in terms of age, height, body mass, and selected physical and basketball-related skill variables.

The researchers designed an assessment form to evaluate performance in the dribbling and shooting skills. In addition, several pilot studies were conducted for the physical and skill tests. An instructional program consisting of (14) instructional units was prepared for each group, with two instructional units per week and a duration of (40) minutes per unit. After ensuring group equivalence and controlling relevant variables, the instructional program was implemented from January 11, 2026, to February 24, 2026. Subsequently, post-tests were administered to measure learning outcomes in the skills under investigation. Skill performance was videotaped and evaluated by a panel of experts and specialists using specially prepared evaluation forms.

After collecting the data and analyzing them statistically using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), the results indicated that the Learning Stations Strategy had a positive and effective impact on learning the basketball skills of dribbling and shooting. Furthermore, it contributed to improving the skill performance level of the students in the experimental group compared with those taught using the traditional method.
