Emotion Regulation According to Self-Regulation of Iraqi Premier League Football Players
Main Article Content
Abstract
Chapter One includes the introduction and the importance of the research. The increasing development of psychology in general and sports psychology in particular, along with its practical importance, has made it necessary to search for new methods to present and teach it to beneficiaries. Studies have shown that the superiority of most high-level athletes in competitive situations primarily depends on how well they utilize their mental and psychological abilities, no less than their physical abilities. The research problem arises from the fact that player face many challenges and pressures during their careers, such as crowd pressure, media criticism, injuries, club transfers, and the demands of high performance under unstable conditions. The objectives of the research include constructing and applying two scales—emotion regulation—for Iraqi Premier League football players, establishing normative scores, determining levels for scale (emotion regulation according to self-regulation).The research fields include:
Human field: Iraqi Premier League football players
Spatial field: stadiums and halls of Iraqi Premier League clubs
Temporal field: from 25/10/2025 to 2/5/2026
Chapter Three presents the research methodology and field procedures. The researcher adopted the descriptive method. The sample was intentionally selected and consisted of Iraqi Premier League football players for the 2025/2026 season, totaling 320 players distributed across 16 clubs. The sample was divided into two groups: the first was the construction sample (220 players), and the second was the application sample (80 players), to whom the two scales were applied.
Chapter Four includes the presentation, analysis, and discussion of the results of the emotion regulation scale (according to self-regulation)
Chapter Five includes several conclusions, such as:
1-The emotion regulation scale (according to self-regulation) prepared by the researcher is a good tool for measuring the level of emotion regulation among Iraqi Premier League players..
2-The two scale were applied to the research sample and results were obtained. The application sample was distributed across six levels in scale (excellent, very good, good, average, acceptable, and weak). There is a high statistically significant correlation between emotion regulation (according to self-regulation) and Iraqi Premier League football players.
Recommendations include:
1-Adopting the scale prepared by the researcher to measure emotion regulation (according to self-regulation) Iraqi Premier League players.
2-Paying attention to players’ psychological factors by sports institutions and addressing the problems they face in managing their emotions,
3-The necessity of having a sports psychologist in sports activities..
