Abstract

The aim of the study was to construct two specialized scales for female physical education teachers, namely technological competencies and academic self-concept in practical lessons, and to design a Web Quest-based developmental program to improve the level of technological competencies and academic self-concept in practical lessons among female physical education teachers. The study also sought to identify the effectiveness of the Web Quest-based developmental program in enhancing technological competencies and academic self-concept in practical lessons for female physical education teachers, The researcher adopted an experimental research method using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of (60) female teachers selected randomly, representing (30.928%) of the original population of female physical education teachers in intermediate and secondary schools under the Directorate of Education / Baghdad / Al-Rusafa 2 for the academic year (2023/2024). In addition, (10) teachers were selected for the pilot study, and (110) teachers were chosen for constructing the two scales. After constructing the two specialized scales and preparing the Web Quest-based developmental program units, the program was implemented over a period of (3) weeks at a rate of two units per week. The experiment began with administering the pretests using online questionnaires via Google Drive services, followed by the implementation of the program on the main sample, and concluded with the posttests. The total duration of the research procedures extended from (14/4/2024) to (23/5/2024). The results were analyzed using the (SPSS) system. The findings indicated that the technological competencies and academic self-concept scales are appropriate for female physical education teachers and are valid for measuring these constructs, as they meet the scientific requirements and psychometric properties necessary for acceptance in physical education and sports sciences. The Web Quest-based developmental program was also found to be suitable for female physical education teachers in intermediate and secondary schools, and its implementation contributed to improving their technological competencies and academic self-concept in practical lessons. The study recommends the importance of assessing technological competencies and academic self-concept among female physical education teachers to monitor required improvements and to avoid potential issues during the implementation of Web Quest-based programs. It also emphasizes the necessity of considering the specific nature, objectives, and teaching methodologies of physical education lessons when designing such developmental programs for this group of teachers.
