Abstract
The technical aspect of hurdle running is considered one of the important factors that influences the quality of performance. Accordingly, the world has begun utilizing various instructional methods aimed at impacting the performance level from technical and aesthetic perspectives. Techniques in filming and analysis have been incorporated to determine the most precise details that actively contribute to the development of technical performance during the hurdle clearance step, which is the domain of Sports Biomechanics. The study aimed to identify the effect of certain enhanced drills on developing the first hurdle clearance step, the running pattern between the first and second hurdles, and some biokinematic variables in the 110m hurdles race. The study adopted the experimental design, and the sample consisted of second-year students at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, University of Basra. The pre-performance was filmed, followed by the application of the enhanced drills for a period of 3 weeks at a rate of 4 hours weekly. Post-performance filming was then conducted. A high-speed SONY camera was used, and the analysis was performed using the Dartfish software. Several important biokinematic variables were extracted, and the data was statistically processed. The researchers reached conclusions, including: the enhanced drills had a good impact on developing the performance in the first hurdle clearance and the running between the first and second hurdles; and it was found that the development in the horizontal distance before hurdle clearance (the point of initiation of the clearance) somehow affects the quality of the hurdle clearance.
