Abstract

This study aimed to design training exercises using the High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) method for U-19 football players at Al-Qurna Football Club, and to investigate the impact of these exercises on cardiac training status, anaerobic capacity, and the speed of complex skill performance among the research sample,The researchers adopted the experimental method using equivalent groups. The research population consisted of 23 players from Al-Qurna Club participating in the Basra Governorate League for the 2024–2025 season. One player was excluded due to injury, and two goalkeepers were also excluded, leaving 20 outfield players. A random draw was used to assign 10 players to the experimental group, while the remaining 10 formed the control group,Pre-tests and measurements were conducted before implementing the HIIT-based training program, and the same tests were repeated after the training period. The results indicated that the exercises designed by the researchers had a significant positive effect on improving cardiac training status and anaerobic capacity in the experimental group, reflecting the effectiveness of the training program. Additionally, the HIIT-based exercises contributed to a noticeable improvement in the speed of complex skill performance, due to their alignment with the demands of real match situations,Although the control group showed some development in physiological and skill-related abilities, the experimental group demonstrated superior progress, confirming the effectiveness of the HIIT approach,The researchers recommend adopting HIIT-based exercises for football training, given their proven impact on enhancing physiological, physical, and skill-related capacities. Furthermore, training content should be designed to simulate competitive match conditions, in line with HIIT principles. Incorporating elements of excitement and competition within training sessions is also advised, as it boosts player motivation and encourages higher performance levels.
