Abstract

This study aimed to identify the impact of the proposed educational curriculum on developing the performance level of the serving skill among students in the experimental group compared to the control group in the post-test. The researchers used the experimental method, and the research sample consisted of second-year students at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, University of Basra, during the academic year (2024–2025). The researchers concluded that the strategy helped students develop metacognitive skills, including planning, self-monitoring, self-evaluation, and linking theoretical knowledge to practical performance. This led to improved decision-making abilities during the execution of the serving skill and enhanced independence in learning. Therefore, it was recommended that the SQ3R strategy be adopted within the curriculum for teaching volleyball skills and team sports in colleges of physical education and sports sciences, due to its positive impact on improving motor and cognitive performance.
